By Nicole WilsonNovember 11, 2025

A cartoon color guard rifle, often simply referred to as a "cartoon riffle" or "coo-guard rifle" by enthusiasts, is not merely an ordinary prop, but a symbol of precision and creativity in the world of color guard. This specialized equipment, while visually identical to its military counterpart, serves a distinct purpose in the realm of artistic drill and pageantry.

At its core, a cartoon color guard rifle is designed to be a lightweight, safe, and visually striking alternative to traditional firearms in color guard performances. The term "cartoon" in its name originates from its whimsical, oversized, and exaggerated appearance, reminiscent of cartoon characters, that adds a unique flair to routines.

Materials and Construction

The primary material used in manufacturing a cartoon color guard rifle is plastic, with some high-end models featuring lightweight metals like aluminum. This ensures it's lightweight, durable, and, most importantly, safe for performers of all ages to handle.

Safety Features

A cartoon color guard rifle is equipped with several safety features. Primarily, it's designed to be non-firing and non-labeled, eliminating any risk of accidental discharge or confusion with real firearms. Additionally, the muzzle and handle are ergonomically designed to prevent injuries during spins and tosses.
