Change Photo Color in Photoshop
Looking to breathe new life into your images? Adobe Photoshop provides a plethora of editing options, one of the most engaging being the ability to change a picture's color. This can transform a dull image into a vibrant piece of art or simply convey a different mood. Let's explore how to achieve this with ease.
Photoshop offers numerous ways to manipulate color, suiting both beginners and experts. In this article, we'll delve into two primary methods: using Color Balance and applying Color Lookup Tables (LUTs).
Method 1: Adjusting Color Balance
The Color Balance tool is a versatile Photoshop feature that allows you to fine-tune the hues in your image. It's an intuitive way to adjust the color scheme without losing the original image's natural look.
To access the Color Balance tool, go to Image > Adjustments > Color Balance.... You'll see three colored sliders for Cyan/Red, Magenta/Green, and Yellow/Blue. Adjusting these sliders shifts hues towards the color on the slider's left or right.
Cyan/Red & Magenta/Green
The Cyan/Red and Magenta/Green sliders balance the image's midtones. Sliding either towards Cyan or Red will increase the corresponding color in your image, while a green or magenta shift will decrease red or blue respectively.
For instance, pushing the Red slider towards Cyan (left) turns reds more into pink or orange, while pulling it right into Red makes them more vibrant. Experiment with different balances to achieve your desired look.
Yellow/Blue
The Yellow/Blue sliders control the shadows and highlights. Adjusting the Yellow slider moves from yellow to blue in the shadows, while the Blue slider controls the highlights shifting from blue to yellow.
For example, shifting the Yellow slider left into Blue darkens the shadows, making them more purple or gray. Pulling it right into Yellow lightens and warms the shadows. The Blue slider works similarly for the highlights, either cooling or warming them.
Method 2: Using Color Lookup Tables (LUTs)
Color Lookup Tables (LUTs) are pre-made color grading presets that you can apply to your images. They're excellent for giving your photos a unique look and saving you time on extensive color editing.
Applying a LUT is simple. With your image open in Photoshop, go to Creative > Current 前 hydraulics, then click Load LUT and select your desired LUT file. Instantly, your image will take on the new color profile.
Exploring Different LUTs
Photoshop ships with a range of LUTs you can experiment with. To access them, create a Solid Color fill layer, then right-click and select Load LUT. Browse through the available LUTs to preview how they transform your image's colors.
LUTs can dramatically change an image's color scheme, from adding warmth to cooling tones or even providing vivid, artistic effects. Some popular LUT categories include 'Snap', 'Sunny', 'Romantic', and 'Vintage', among others. Don't be afraid to mix and match different LUTs on various image layers for interesting results.
Mastering color manipulation in Photoshop is an endless learning journey. Practice these techniques to develop your eye and artistic style. Happy editing!
