Colorful Halloween Cat Craft: Create Your Own Page
Employee trick-or-treating has been an annual tradition for Halloween at our company. This year, we wanted to add a fun twist - a "ColorPage Halloween Cat" themed decoration contest. Each team could decorate their workspace in the colors of the cat emoji (🐱) - orange, black, and white - and incorporate cat-themed elements.
The enthusiasm was contagious. Teams brainstormed creative ways to incorporate the colors and theme into their space. Some decided to keep it simple with black and orange balloons, while others went all out with DIY cat-shaped cut-outs and painted walls.
Preparing for the Contest
The rules were simple: the workspace had to clearly represent the colors and theme, and no structural damage could be done to the building. Teams were given a week to prepare.
Our creative services team went above and beyond, designing printable cat faces that could be taped to windows, and creating a custom hashtag (#ColorPageCat2022) for everyone to share their progress on social media.
Judging Criteria
The judge's panel, consisting of senior management and HR, evaluated each workspace based on three criteria: color representation, creativity, and overall festivity.
To ensure fairness, they visited each workspace unannounced, taking photos and making notes. The final scores were then tallied, and the top three teams were announced at our Halloween party.
Team Spirit and Engagement
The contest was not just about winning; it was about bringing the team together and fostering a sense of camaraderie. Employees bonded over their shared love for the cat theme and competed friendly.
Even those who weren't part of the winning teams felt a sense of accomplishment, proud of their contributions to the decorated spaces and the positive atmosphere it created around the office.
The Results
The judges had a tough time deciding, given the high quality of the entries. But finally, the results were announced:
The first prize went to the Marketing team, who transformed their workspace into a 'spook-tacular' cat-themed wonderland complete with laser-cut cat silhouettes, orange fairy lights, and a homemade cat piñata. They received a $500 gift card to treat themselves.
The second prize went to the Finance team, known for their Orange is the New Black reference, with their clever use of orange accents and black-and-white striped 'cells'. They received a $300 gift card.
The third prize, a $200 gift card, went to the IT team for their tech-savvy cat maze, created with black and orange cardstock and LED lights, incorporating a fun cat-themed quiz.
While the contest ended with winners, the real joy was in the participation and the team spirit it fostered. As we head into the holiday season, we're already thinking about next year's contest and the new ways we can bring our employees together. See you in 2023 for #ColorPageCat2023! 🐱🎃
