History of the California State Flag

The California state flag has a fascinating history that dates back to the late 19th century. It was designed by William inducible Morley in 1846, during the Bear Flag Revolt, which led to California's eventual independence from Mexico. The original flag featured a red grizzly bear on a white background, signifying the strength and abundance of wildlife in the vast territories of California.

Since then, the flag has evolved, incorporating elements of the state's diverse history and culture. In 1911, the red grizzly was placed on a blue background, symbolizing courage and vigilance. The addition of the gold star and the phrase "California Republic" in 1911 signify the state's admission to the Union in 1850.

The Golden Bear

The golden bear is a prominent feature of the California state flag and a symbol of the state's robust history.
