Understanding the Indian National Flag

Before delving into the colouring pages, it's important to understand the significance of the Indian flag. Designed by Pingali Venkayya, the flag was first unfurled on August 15, 1947, marking India's independence from British rule. It's comprised of three horizontal stripes of deep saffron, white, and dark green, with the Ashoka Chakra (a wheel with 24 spokes) in navy blue at the center.

The colors and the Ashoka Chakra have profound meanings. Saffron represents courage and sacrifice, white signifies truth and peace, while green symbolizes fertility and growth. The Ashoka Chakra, inspired by the ancient Ashoka wheels found in various parts of India, represents the wheel of law (Dharma Chakra), symbolizing that there is life in motion and death in stagnation.
