The Birth of Crystal Palace FC

The club's beginnings can be traced back to 1905, when they were founded as troubled and short-lived local sidesashford and Dulwich Hamlet were merged. The new club, originally called Palace, adopted the colors of the amalgamation - the red ofashford and the blue of Dulwich Hamlet.

The name "Crystal Palace" was added in 1910, inspired by the famous Crystal Palace exhibition building in Sydenham, which hosted the Great Exhibition of 1851. This grand structure, also known as the "Crystal Palace," was a symbol of Victorian progress and innovation – values that the club aimed to embody.

The Eagle Crest

In 1973, the club's crest was redesigned to feature an eagle holding a football. This powerful bird-of-prey was chosen to represent strength, courage, and vision – qualities the club hoped to exemplify on the pitch. The eagle also tied in with the club's mid-1970s nickname, "The Glaziers," which paid homage to the local glass industry.

The eagle became an immediate fan favorite, symbolizing the club's tradition and pride. Today, it remains an essential element of Crystal Palace FC's visual identity and is proudly showcased on the club's crest and kit.

The Iconic Kit

Crystal Palace's striped kit is one of the most recognizable in the Premier League. The red and blue stripes have been a mainstay of the club's home kit since the 1970s, with variations in shade and width over the years. The away kit has also evolved, with various color combinations including yellow, white, and more recently, green.

In recent seasons, the club has paid tribute to its history with retrospective kits. These vintage-inspired designs have celebrated the club's past while keeping one eye on the future, showcasing Crystal Palace FC's deep-rooted passion for its heritage.
