Here's a list of materials you'll need:

  • durch Enlaces or cardstock paper (red and black)
  • Glue or tape
  • Pipe cleaners (orange or red)
  • Colander (for the ladybug's head)
  • Two small ping pong balls (for the ladybug's eyes)
  • Markers or paint (for detailing)
  • Scissors
  • Googly eyes (optional)

Preparing the Ladybug Body

Start by drawing a large, circular shape on the red construction paper for the ladybug's body. You can use a bowl or plate as a stencil to get the perfect round shape.

Cut out the circular shape. This will be your ladybug's body. Make sure to keep this piece uncut for now, as we'll use it as a stencil for the wings later.

Creating the Ladybug's Wings

Using the red circle you've just cut, trace and cut out two smaller versions of the same shape. These will be your ladybug's wings.

Next, take the black construction paper and cut out a thinner, smaller version of the same circular shape for the ladybug's wing details.

Assembling the Ladybug's Body and Wings

Glue or tape the two red wings to the back of the large red circle (the ladybug's body) so that they stick straight out to the sides.

Then, glue or tape the black circular piece onto the red wings, leaving a small portion of the red color visible at the edges to depict the ladybug's wings.

Creating the Ladybug's Head

Using the colander, carefully cut out the base to create a bowl-like shape for the ladybug's head. You can paint it red once cut.

Once dry, glue or tape the colander onto the top of the ladybug's body, so it sits securely in place.

Adding the Ladybug's Details

Using a marker or paint, carefully draw the ladybug's smile on the bottom of the red circle (the body). You can use a curved shape or a simple, small circle to depict the smile.

Now, cut thin, red strips of construction paper for the ladybug's legs. You'll need six of these (three on each side of the ladybug). Glue or tape them onto the sides of the ladybug's body.

Creating the Ladybug's Antennae and Eyes

For the ladybug's antennae, bend the pipe cleaners into curves at the ends. Insert them into the holes at the top of the colander (the ladybug's head).

For the eyes, poke two small holes into the ping pong balls. Paint them black if desired, then insert them into the colander (the ladybug's head) on either side of the antennae.

Adding the Final Touches

Use markers or paint to draw small dots on the ladybug's body and wings to mimic the patterns of a real giant ladybug.

To make the ladybug stand, cut out small, triangular shapes from a piece of paper and glue them underneath the ladybug's body. These can also act as 'feet'.

Your giant ladybug craft is now complete! Display it proudly or use it as a fun, educational toy. Happy crafting!
