How to Craft Paper Calla Lilies
The art of paper craft knows no bounds, and today we're going to explore how to transform a simple sheet of paper into a beautiful, long-lasting calls lily. Also known as Cala Lilies, these striking flowers are a favorite for weddings and home decor. Here's a step-by-step guide to making your own paper calls lilies, no gardening skills required!
Before you start, gather your materials: a green sheet of paper, a white sheet of paper, a pencil, scissors, a ruler, and a glue stick. Let's dive into the crafting process. We'll break down the steps into two main topics: creating the lily and creating the stem and leaves.
Creating the Lily
Begin by drawing a large spiral on your white sheet of paper, starting from the center and increasing the radius gradually. This will form the tepals, or petal-like structures, of your lily.
Once you've drawn your spiral, carefully cut along the lines with your scissors. Don't worry if the cuts aren't perfect; this is a forgiving project. Now, let's shape our tepals. Grab one end of your spiral and gently bend it upwards, creating a curl. Your lily is starting to take shape!
Shaping the TePal
Bend each curl inwards, creating a cup-like structure. This will give your lily that signature, elegant look. Be sure to leave a little space in the center for the stamen later.
Once you've shaped all your tepals, use a bit of glue to hold them in place. Be sparing with the glue; we don't want any strings hanging onto our beautiful lily. Set them aside to dry while we work on the stem and leaves.
Creating the Stamen
For the stamen, which gives the lily its pollen-like appearance, draw a small circle on a piece of white paper. You can make it as big or as small as you like, depending on the size of your lily. Cut out this circle and draw a spiral on it.
Like before, cut along the spiral lines and curl the ends upwards to create a fluffy, stamen-like appearance. Glue this onto the center of your lily, filling in the space we left earlier. Voila! Your lily's core is complete.
Creating the Stem and Leaves
The stem and leaves are what give our paper lily a touch of realism. So let's grab that green paper and get to work.
First, draw and cut out six leaf shapes. These will form the base of your lily, supporting it and giving it that elegant, balanced look. Once you've cut out your leaves, use your ruler to make small cuts along the edges, creating a feathered effect.
Assembling the Lily
Now we're ready to assemble our lily. First, glue the six leaves onto the bottom of your lily. Make sure they're evenly spaced to create that perfect, symmetrical look. Then, glue the lily to the center of a green strip of paper for the stem.
You can make the stem as tall or as short as you like. Once you've glued the lily onto the stem, you can add more height by gluing additional strips of green paper onto the stem. Finish off with a spot of glue at the base of the stem to secure your lily. And there you have it - a beautiful, long-lasting paper calla lily!
Your paper calls lily is now ready to brighten up any room or make a lovely gift. Display it proudly and enjoy the satisfaction of creating something beautiful with your own hands. Happy crafting!
