Preparing Your Post-it Notes

First things first, you'll need to create several identical pentagon shapes from your Post-it notes. Don't worry if you're not great at drawing; we'll keep it simple.

Here's how to do it:

Creating Pentagon Shapes

Take one Post-it note and draw a line from the bottom left corner to the top right corner, connecting the two farthest points. Then, do the same from the bottom right corner to the top left corner. You should now have a shape that resembles a pentagon (five-sided star). If you're struggling, you can always trace around another shape or use an online template to guide you.

Carefully cut along your lines, and you'll have your first pentagon. Repeat this process with the remaining Post-it notes until you have around 20-25 pentagons. This might seem like a lot, but trust us, you'll need them for our ninja star.

Folding Your Pentagon

Now that you have your pentagons, it's time to get folding. Take one pentagon and, starting from the top point, fold it in half to the bottom point, crease well, and then unfold. Do the same for the opposite point. You should now have a crease that intersects at the center.

Next, fold the top corner to meet the center crease, then do the same for the bottom corner. You should now have a kite shape. Unfold these last two folds, and then fold the sides to the center crease, creating four small triangles at the center. Your pentagon is now ready for the next step. Repeat this process with all your pentagons.

Assembling Your Origami Ninja Star

Congratulations! You've now created the building blocks for your origami ninja star. Now let's start putting them together.

Before you begin, ensure you have your pentagons within reach and that you're working in a well-lit, clutter-free space.

Making the Star Base

Take eight of your folded pentagons and start connecting them in a circular pattern. Each pentagon should have one of its triangles pointing inwards, creating a star shape with five points. Make sure all the points are roughly the same size and that there are no gaps between the pentagons. This is your star's base.

To secure the pentagons together, you can use a small piece of tape on the back of each pentagon where they meet their neighbors. Remember, we're gunning for a ninja star here, not a disintegrating mess.

Creating the Star's Edges

Now that you have your star base, take a new pentagon and fold one of its corners to the center crease, as you did before. However, this time, don't unfold. Instead, fold the opposite corner to meet the first fold, creating a corner with a sharp point. This is your star's edge piece.

Repeat this process with another pentagon and slot the new edge piece into one of the star's points, with the sharp point facing outwards. The edge piece should wrap around the star's point, hiding the pentagon's original shape. Secure with a small piece of tape. Repeat this process with the remaining seven points.

Finishing Touches

You're almost there! Now it's time to add the final touches that make your origami ninja star truly awesome.

Take a few of your remaining pentagons and follow the same edge creation process as before. However, this time, instead of just slotting one edge piece into a point, layer two or three edge pieces together, creating a staggered effect. This is your star's 'sharp' edge. Slot this layered edge into one of your star's points and secure with tape. Repeat this process with the remaining points, creating a star with dangerously sharp edges.

Adding Color (Optional)

If you want your origami ninja star to stand out even more, why not add some color? You can use markers, paint, or even stickers to decorate your star. Just remember to keep it safe if you're using ink, as it can run.

Once you're done, stand back and admire your handiwork. You've just created an origami ninja star out of humble Post-it notes! Not bad, huh?

Now that you've mastered this ninja star craft, why not try adding more complexity to your designs, or even teaching others how to make an origami ninja star? The possibilities are endless. Until next time, keep folding, and may your ninja star always find its mark.
