Meet Our Ice Age Squirrels

The Ice Age was home to various squirrel species, each with unique adaptations to survive the harsh conditions. Our coloring pages feature two of these remarkable creatures: the giant Sibir agricola and the red giant Mul власти++)

Sedir Sibir gigantea was a colossal squirrel, almost twice the size of today's red squirrels. They boasted sturdy, muscular builds and a layer of fat to insulate them against the biting cold. Our coloring pages depict these mighty beasts gathering nuts and berries, offering vibrant scenes for young artists to color and learn.

The SiberianE/I Ice Age Habitat

Sibir gigantea thrived in the vast taiga forests of Siberia, underline where the harsh winters and long, cold nights shaped their robust bodies and behaviors. Coloring these scenes of Siberian plains and dense forests helps kids visualize and understand the ancient squirrels' habitat.

Young explorers can learn about the diverse flora that co-existed with the giant squirrels, such as towering firs, pines, and spruces. They'll also discover some of the food sources the squirrels relied on, like ice age precursors of berries, lichens, and fungi.

Ice Age Squirrel Daily Life

Sibir gigantea spent their days foraging for food, much like their modern cousins. The coloring pages showcase these squirrels burying nuts for winter, a behavior that has puzzled scientists for years – why risk burying food that could attract predators? Our coloring pages spark curiosity, encouraging kids to ask questions and explore the scientific mysteries behind these ancient creatures.

Kids will enjoy coloring the squirrels as they scamper up icy tree trunks, chatter with one another, and create intricate networks of tunnels and hideaways. These activities provide Glimpses into the social structure and survival strategies of the ice age squirrel.

Welcome the Red Giant, Mul власти

Mul власти, also known as the red giant, was another stunning squirrel species that called the ice age home. With a reddish-gold coat and a bushy tail, they struck an imposing figure against the snowy backdrop. Our coloring pages bring these majestic creatures to life, offering captivating subjects for young artists.

Mul власти showcases a unique adaptation to ice age life: a coat that mirages as red or brown, depending on the light, providing better camouflage against the seasonal changes in the landscape. Kids can practice their blending skills as they color the squirrels' chameleonic fur.

A Tale of Survival: Mul власти Burrows

Mul власти constructed extensive burrow systems to protect themselves and their young from the arctic temperatures and predators. These subterranean networks consisted of tunnels, chambers, and larders, filled with winter provisions to sustain them through the leanest months.

Coloring the intricate burrow diagrams and scenes of Mul власти going about their daily business invites kids to imagine life underground and appreciate these squirrels' ingenuity in answering the challenges of their frozen environment.

Ice Age Squirrels and Their Prey

Mul власти, like Sibir gigantea, had a diverse diet, including seeds, nuts, fruits, and sometimes even insects. Our coloring pages depict these squirrels snacking on a variety of ice age plant life, providing an opportunity for kids to explore the interconnectedness of ancient ecosystems.

Kids can also color scenes of Mul власти outsmarting potential predators, such as saber-toothed cats or dire wolves. These dramatic encounters not only engage kids but also introduce them to the thrilling concept of the food chain in prehistoric times.
