Jesus Heals Jairus' Daughter: Preschool Craft Idea

In the saying of Jesus' teachings, one story that stands out is the account of Jairus' daughter in the Bible. This story not only showcases Jesus' power but also serves as a wonderful opportunity for preschool craft activities. We'll explore this story, its significance, and fun craft ideas that can help your little ones understand and engage with it.

Before diving into craft ideas, let's briefly recall the story. Jairus, a synagogue ruler, fell at Jesus' feet and begged Him to heal his 12-year-old daughter. As they were on their way, a woman who had been bleeding for 12 years touched Jesus' cloak, and her bleeding stopped. When they reached Jairus' house, his daughter was already presumed dead. But Jesus took her hand, and she rose up, alive.

Understanding the Story: A Preschool Level

To make this story accessible to preschoolers, it's essential to simplify it without diluting its essence. Explain that Jesus was kind and loving and had the power to make people better when they were sick. He helped Jairus' daughter when she was very sick, and she got well again. You can use simple, relatable language and props to drive the story home.

After sharing the story, you can engage preschoolers with crafts that reinforce the story's themes and values. Let's explore some creative and engaging preschool craft ideas centered around Jesus Healing Jairus' daughter.

Story Summary Puppet Craft

Create simple puppets representing Jesus, Jairus, and his daughter. Use paper bags or cardstock to make the puppets. Draw the characters' faces and attach popsicle sticks at the back for handling. After making the puppets, have the children reenact the story. This activity helps children recall the story's sequence and encourages creative role-play.

To make it more engaging, you can add costumes and set the scene using simple props. This craft not only helps children understand the story but also enhances their fine motor skills and imagination.

Handprint Jesus Craft

Another beautiful craft idea is making a handprint picture of Jesus. Trace and cut out a child's handprint from colored paper. Glue this handprint on another paper, with the fingers spread out to resemble a candle or a heart. This craft symbolizes Jesus as the light of the world or the love He showed in healing Jairus' daughter. You can also add extra details like a halo, a simple robe, or a crown of thorns to represent Jesus.

This craft reinforces the story's theme of Jesus' love and kindness. It also helps children explore their creative side and improves their fine motor skills. Plus, it makes for a lovely keepsake that parents will treasure.

Thematic Crafts: Healing and Love

To broaden the crafting experience, you can introduce crafts revolving around the themes of healing and love. These crafts can help preschoolers associate the story with these essential concepts and understand their relevance in their lives.

Here are some thematic craft ideas that go hand-in-hand with the Jesus Healing Jairus' daughter story:

Heart Shaped Band-aid Craft

Create heart-shaped band-aids to represent healing. Use construction paper or cardstock to make the hearts, then attach them to real band-aids or draw red lines to imitate the band-aid strips. This craft encourages children to associate band-aids (and thus, healing) with love, much like how Jesus healed Jairus' daughter with love.

For added fun, you can create a simple "Healing Zone" with this craft. Set up a comfy spot with pillows, blankets, and these heart-shaped band-aids. When children feel sad or upset, they can go to the "Healing Zone" for a hug and a "heart band-aid" to help them feel better.

Love Notes Matching Game

Make a simple matching game using index cards or construction paper. Write or draw different symbols or words representing love (like hearts, lips, flowers, etc.) on one set of cards and their matching descriptions on another set. For instance, a heart could match "kindness." This game helps reinforce the concept of love and its many forms.

To make it more interactive, you can use these match-up cards as story-starter prompts. For example, "Once upon a time, there was a girl who needed Jesus' kindness (heart card + kindness card)." This activity encourages critical thinking, literacy skills, and story-telling.

As our crafting journey comes to an end, remember that these activities should be fun and engaging, primarily serving to create memorable moments for your preschoolers. The goal is to make the story of Jesus healing Jairus' daughter and its themes accessible, attainable, and delightful for your little ones. Happy crafting, and may your preschool classroom be filled with laughter, love, and learning!
