Before diving into the story's details, let's understand the backdrop. During Jesus' ministry, leprosy was a feared and misunderstood disease. Lepers were stigmatized, shunned, and forced to live in isolation. Their healings would thus be a powerful display of Jesus' mercy and divine power.

The Story of the Ten Lepers

Ten men, all suffering from leprosy, met Jesus on his way to Jerusalem. From a distance, they called out, "Jesus, Master, have pity on us!" (Luke 17:13). Unlike others who physically approached Jesus, these men knew better due to their impurity. Yet, they had faith that Jesus could heal them from afar.

Jesus, moved by their faith, told them to show themselves to the priests, following the Jewish law. As they went, they were cleansed. One of them, seeing he was healed, returned to Jesus, praising God in a loud voice. He fell at Jesus' feet, thanking him.

The Lesson of Faith

Firstly, this story teaches us faith and boldness. The lepers called out to Jesus with confidence, though they were shunned and sick. Their faith wasn't in their circumstances or what others thought, but in Jesus' power to heal.

Secondly, gratitude matters. Only one leper returned to Jesus, thanking him. Jesus then said, "Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine?" (Luke 17:17). This highlights the importance of gratitude and acknowledging blessings.
