The lovable Minions

The Minions are the iconic, yellow, gibberish-speaking creatures from the Despicable Me franchise. They were created by Pierre Coffin and are the loyal, humorous sidekicks of Gru, the main character played by Steve Carell. With their distinctive appearance and comedic antics, Minions have become a global phenomenon, capturing the hearts of kids and adults alike.

From their first appearance in the 2010 animated film Despicable Me, the Minions have starred in their own movies, Minions (2015) and Minions: The Rise of Gru (2022), and have made numerous guest appearances in other films and TV shows. Whether they're causing domestic chaos, planning world domination, or just trying to survive the craziness of life with Gru, the Minions bring joy and laughter to every scene.

Minions' origin and history

The Minions' origin story is explored in the film Minions. They are revealed to have existed since the dinosaur age, always serving the most evil Master they could find. Over time, they have served various villains, including a T-Rex, a caveman, Napoleon Bonaparte, Dracula, an Egyptian pharaoh, a mosquito, and even the god Venus de Milo.

In the original Despicable Me film, the Minions are seen living in their underground cave, waiting for a new Master. They meet Gru at a secret meeting of villainous rejectees, and he becomes their new leader. Their loyal service to Gru throughout the Despicable Me franchise has made them fan favorites, with their unique laughter and grunts adding a playful touch to every scene.

Minion characters: Meet the main guys

The Minions are largely anonymous, with no individual names mentioned in the films. However, some have unique characteristics that make them stand out. The most notable ones are Stuart, Kevin, and Bob, who star in the film Minions as the three heroes who embark on a road trip to New York City to find their new master, Gru.

Stuart is the cool and rebellious Minion, wearing a pair of sunglasses and a leather jacket. Kevin is the wise and responsible one, often seen holding a flashlight. Bob is the youngest and smallest, with a distinctive blue personality (or ' osobarnaTY') and a mischievous streak. Other recognizable Minions include the 第四章 (or 'Minion-of-the-Year') and the toilet-cleaning Minion, who appears in the Despicable Me 2 trailer.
