Welcome to the enchanting world of Penguin Pottery Australia, where artistry and innovation converge to create exquisite handmade ceramics. Established in 1984, our studio nestled in the lush Hunter Valley of New South Wales, has been sculpting and firing high-quality ceramics for over three decades.

Penguin Pottery Australia is not just a pottery studio; it's a community of passionate artisans dedicated to preserving the ancient art of pottery while embracing modern design sensibilities. Our commitment to quality, craftsmanship, and sustainability has made us a beloved destination for ceramic enthusiasts and homeowners alike.

Our Unique Approach to Ceramics

At the heart of Penguin Pottery Australia lies our unique approach to ceramics. We believe in respecting the past while challenging conventional norms. Our artists are encouraged to experiment with form, glaze, and technique, resulting in a diverse portfolio of functional and decorative pieces that are as varied as they are beautiful.

We take pride in our commitment to environmental sustainability. All our glazes are lead-free, and we strive to minimize our ecological footprint through efficient use of resources and waste recycling.

HandBuilding Techniques

Handbuilding is a laborious yet liberating process that allows our potters to shape clay with their hands, creating unique, tactile pieces. From pinching small bowls to coiling tall vases, each piece is a testament to the skill and artistry of the maker.

Our handbuilt collection includes an array of textures and forms, from smooth, elegant vases to rustic, earthy platters. Each piece is fired multiple times to ensure strength and durability, making it a cherished addition to your home.

Wheel Throwing

Wheel throwing, or 'throwing', is a mesmerizing process where a spinning mass of clay is shaped on a rotating wheel. It requires exceptional skill, strength, and patience, and our potters bring decades of experience to this technique.

Our thrown collection features symmetrical, functional pieces like bowls, plates, and mugs. Each piece is meticulously trimmed, glazed, and fired, resulting in a fine, consistent finish. Whether you're looking for everyday dining essentials or statement pieces, our thrown collection offers something for every taste.
