Red Dart Paper Airplane Template
The Red Dart paper airplane is a classic and iconic origami-style plane that's easy to fold and fun to fly. Whether you're a seasoned paper airplane expert or just starting out, the Red Dart is a must-know template. Let's dive into this timeless design and learn how to create the perfect Red Dart paper airplane.
Before we get started, gather your materials. You'll need a single sheet of red paper (8.5 x 11 inches or A4 works best) and a ruler. Once you're equipped, let's fold our way to flight!
The Basic Folds
The Red Dart begins with basic folds that create its signature shape. Here's how to get started:
1. **Create the Base:** Fold your red paper in half lengthwise, crease well, then unfold. Next, fold it in half widthwise, and crease again. Unfold this last fold, leaving you with a large, folded rectangle.
2. **Form the Wings:** Fold the top two corners in to the center line, creasing well. You should now have a rectangle with pointed ends. Then, fold the top corners down to the bottom edge, creating a double-thickness rectangle.
Shaping the Fuselage
With the basic fold out of the way, it's time to shape the body of your Red Dart.
3. **Make the Nose:** Fold the top of your rectangle down about 1 inch. Then, unfold the top layer only. Crease the new fold well and refold the top layer back down. You should now have a pointed nose.
Crafting the Wings
Now that the fuselage is shaped, let's focus on the wings.
4. **Make the Wing Folds:** Open your wings back up. Fold the top layer of each wing down to the bottom edge, creasing crisply. Then, unfold the top layer of each wing.
5. **Create the Wing Tips:** Fold the outside edges of each wing in to the center crease, pointing towards the center line. These are your wing tips.
Refining Your Red Dart
Almost there! A few more folds and your Red Dart will be ready for launch.
6. **Shape the Tail:** Fold the top of your plane down, stopping short of the wing crease. Unfold the top layer of the tail section. Fold the sides of the tail section in to meet at the center line. Crease well, then refold the top layer down. You should now have a bi-plane tail.
Preparing for Flight
Your Red Dart is almost complete! Let's make those final adjustments for a smooth flight.
7. **Adjust the Wings:** Fold your wings up along the center crease. To adjust the wing position, bend the wings along the horizontal line just past the wing root. This creates the up or down elevator effect during flight.
Make It Your Own
The Red Dart's design allows for a range of creative customizations. Try adding patterns, stickers, or even engine art to make your Red Dart truly one-of-a-kind.
The magic of paper airplanes is more than just the final product - it's in the process of creation and the joy of flight. So, take your Red Dart, find a clear flying field, and let it soar!
