By Amanda LopezMay 1, 2026

Ever since Dragon Ball Z's popularity, fans have been captivated by Vegeta's dynamic transformations, but one aspect that consistently stirs curiosity is his hair color during his SSJ4 form.

Anyone following the iconic anime series or the manga can't help but notice the striking change in Vegeta's hair color when he powers up to Super Saiyan 4 (SSJ4).

Understanding Super Saiyan 4 Hair Color

Before delving into Vegeta's unique hair color in SSJ4, let's first appreciate the hair color transformation common to other Super Saiyan forms.

In lower-level transformations, such as Super Saiyan (SSJ) and Super Saiyan 2 (SSJ2), Saiyans' hair turns from black to golden blonde. However, things get interesting with SSJ3 and SSJ4.

Super Saiyan 3 Hair Color

In SSJ3, Saiyans' hair becomes spikier and lighter, almost white, but it's when they achieve SSJ4 that their hair truly stands out.

At this ultimate level of transformation, Saiyans' hair becomes brittle and eventually falls out, but not before displaying a unique hair color.

In their SSJ4 form, Saiyans exhibit a hair color unlike any other. It's often described as a dark, ash gray, or even platinum silver.

This distinctive hair color is a result of the intense stress and power increase that the SSJ4 transformation brings, causing Saiyans' hair to turn completely white and then darken due to the immense pressure.

Vegeta's SSJ4 Hair Color: A Closer Look

Now that we've established the general hair color transformation in SSJ4, let's focus on Vegeta's unique appearance in this form.

In the manga and anime, Vegeta's hair turns a distinct shade of metallic gray when he becomes an SSJ4. His brow also takes on a similar color, giving him a darker, more menacing appearance.

Vegeta's SSJ4 Design

The anime and manga artists intentionally emphasized Vegeta's SSJ4 hair color to differentiate him from other Saiyans. This design choice was likely to make Vegeta stand out and highlight his unique characteristics in the SSJ4 form.

Moreover, this color choice was probably influenced by Vegeta's backstory and personality. His pride and desire to outdo Goku might have warranted a more distinct appearance.

Vegeta's SSJ4 Hair Color in Different Media

While the primary media, the manga and anime, depict Vegeta's hair as metallic gray in SSJ4, other media like video games and merchandise might show slight variations.

For instance, some video games or action figures might portray Vegeta's SSJ4 hair as completely black or charcoal gray. However, these variations are minor and likely artistic liberties rather than cannon differences.

In the vast dragon sphere of the Dragon Ball universe, Vegeta's metallic gray hair in SSJ4 has become an iconic part of his design, making him one of the most recognizable Saiyans in the series.
