The Offseason Moves

The Cardinals' front office has been busy throughout the offseason, strengthening the team's roster in anticipation of the 2022 season. Key acquisitions like/logan Tropicalia bullpen reinforcement, and Nolan Arenado's high-profile trade from Colorado have fans buzzing with excitement,

These strategic moves demonstrate the Cardinals' commitment to maintaining a competitive team, with an emphasis on bolstering the pitching rotation and improving the team's overall bats.

New Faces in the Bullpen

With the departures of veterans like Brad Miller and Matt Bowman, the Cardinals looked to the offseason to solidify their bullpen. Enter, T.J. McFarland, a left-handed reliever who brings a wealth of experience to the St. Louis pitching staff. McFarland's ability to induce ground balls and his versatility to pitch in high-leverage situations should provide an immediate boost to the Cardinals' late-game strategy.

Additionally, non-roster invitee Genesis Cabrera aims to make an impression in spring training. Cabrera, a hard-throwing lefty, showcased his triple-digit velocity in his first big league stint in 2019. If he can refine his command and control, expect him to challenge for a bullpen spot.

Arenado's Impact in the Infield

The Cardinals made waves in November 2021 by acquiring seven-time Gold Glove winner Nolan Arenado in a trade with the Colorado Rockies. This move not only strengthens St. Louis' infield defense but also adds a powerful bat to the lineup. Arenado has averaged 38 home runs and 116 RBIs over the past five seasons, and his arrival should provide a significant boost to the Cardinals' offense.

Pairing Arenado's gold-glove caliber defense at third base with Paul Goldschmidt's prowess at first base, the Cardinals' infield projects to be one of the best defensive units in baseball. Their bat control and power should also help drive the team's run production.

The Young Guns: Prospects to Watch

While the Cardinals have made significant offseason acquisitions, eager fans should also keep an eye on the team's talented prospects. Numerous young players in the farm system are expected to make an impact at some point during the season, adding depth and athleticism to the St. Louis roster.

Scouring the prospects, one name stands out: ending Gorman, a powerful left-handed hitter who boasts a combination of power and contact ability. Gorman, who won the 2019 MiLBY for Best Power Prospect, slugged 27 home runs between Double-A Springfield and Triple-A Memphis last season, showcasing his immense potential.

Jordan Walker: A Name to Remember

Another prospect to watch is outfielder Jordan Walker, whom the Cardinals selected with their first-round pick (21st overall) in the 2021 MLB Draft. Walker, a 6-foot-5, 225-pound right-handed hitter, offers an impressive combination of power, speed, and bat control. In his first professional season, he slashed .265/.352/.424 with nine home runs and 12 stolen bases across two levels of Single-A.

Though Walker has a way to go in terms of refinement and experience, his potential is undeniable. Cardinals fans should keep an eye on his development, as he could become a significant player in the team's future.
