Understanding Monster Eyes in Monsters, Inc.

In the Monsters, Inc. universe, eyes aren't just windows to the soul; they're also a gateway to understanding each monster's unique abilities and powers. The pigment behind their eyes determines their color and, in turn, their role within the scare industry.

John Ratzenberger, the voice of Yeti and a Pixar veteran, stated in an interview that the creatures' eye colors were carefully chosen to complement their personalities. Let's explore some of these captivating eye colors and what they tell us about the monsters.

Sulley's Eye Color: Crimson Red

Sulley, the lovable, yet terrifying main character, has piercing red eyes that reflect his fiery personality and powerful roar. Red in monster culture signifies strength and power, which makes perfect sense for Sulley, as he is the most powerful scaring monster at Monsters, Inc.

In the Monsters, Inc. video game, it's revealed that Sulley's red eyes can literally "blind" children with fear, making him an ultimate asset to the scream industry. This further emphasizes the significance of Sulley's eye color in representing his power and prowess.

Mike Wazowski's Eye Color: One Green, One Blue

Mike, the genius behind the scenes who runs the Monster World's technology and serves as Sulley's best friend, has a unique eye color setup: one green eye and one blue eye. This uneven eye color complements his eccentric and quirky personality, making him stand out even more amidst his fellow monsters.

In interviews, Billy Crystal, the voice of Mike, has shared that Mike's dual eye color represents his dual nature - part brilliant strategist, part adorable comedy relief. It's yet another example of how eye colors play a crucial role in defining monsters' personalities in the Monsters, Inc. universe.
