Super Troopers Porsche Song: Unveiled

The "Porsche Song" from Super Troopers, a gang of rogue state troopers in Vermont, has become an internet sensation, transforming into a cultural phenomenon that transcends the limits of the original film. The catchy tune, sung by the troopers while walking in slow motion, has captured audiences' hearts, inspiring countless covers and parodies. But where did it come from, and why is it so popular?

The "Porsche Song" is a hilarious rendition of "Sabre Dance" from the 1907 opera "Gayane" by Armenian composer Aram Khachaturian. The original piece is a lively, upbeat number, but in Super Troopers, it's slowed down and paired with comedic lyrics about the troopers' dream Porsche. The genius combination of this classical piece and the troopers' silly song has created a perfect storm of entertainment.

The Origins of the Porsche Song

The "Porsche Song" was born out of the creative minds of the comedy trio Broken Lizard, who wrote and starred in Super Troopers. In their quest to create a memorable, quotable film filled with absurd humor, they chose a peculiar, slow-motion sequence depicting the troopers' desire for a Porsche.

To enhance the scene's absurdity, they searched for a musical piece that would complement the troopers' dreamy, languid strides. Khachaturian's "Sabre Dance" was the perfect choice, its energetic melody providing a amusing contrast to the troopers' slow-motion antics.

The Musical Adaptation

The original "Sabre Dance" is a lively, intricate melody designed for an orchestra. To create the "Porsche Song," the Broken Lizard team simplified the piece, slowing it down and giving it a more laid-back, comedic feel. The altered pitch and pace contribute to the song's humor, underlining the troopers' exaggerated, tongue-in-cheek fantasy.

Moreover, the troopers' lyrics added a new layer of comedy to the scene. Their wistful, whimsical dreams of a Porsche, complete with specific car features and vampire-bat decals, turn the slow-motion sequence into a laugh-out-loud moment that resonates with viewers.

The Impact of the Porsche Song

The "Porsche Song's" impact on popular culture is undeniable. It has sparked countless covers and parodies, from acapella groups to mariachi bands, showcasing its versatility and enduring appeal. Even the original composers of "Sabre Dance" would likely find amusement in its new lifeocheaples.

The song's popularity can be attributed to its unique combination of elements: a classic, recognizable melody, hilarious, campy lyrics, and the comedic context in which it was used. It taps into the collective consciousness of moviegoers, providing a laugh and a memorable moment that stays with viewers long after the credits roll.

The Porsche Song's Resurgence

Almost two decades after Super Troopers' release, the "Porsche Song" experienced a resurgence on the internet. TikTok users popularized the #PorscheChallenge, with participants performing slow-motion dances set to the song, further cementing its place in pop culture.
