Thanksgiving at Walt Disney World Resort is a magical time, combining the traditional warmth of family gatherings with the enchanting world of Disney. The celebration, which typically takes place around November 24th, is a unique blend of holiday cheer and Disney charm, offering a memorable experience that you won't find anywhere else.

With Thanksgiving being a time of giving thanks and spending quality time with loved ones, Disney World ensures that every aspect of your visit reflects these values. The parks are beautifully decorated, the food is delightfully festive, and the atmosphere is filled with gratitude and joy. If you're planning a Thanksgiving getaway to Disney World, let's explore what you can expect during your visit.

Disney World Parks and Entertainment

During Thanksgiving, Disney World's four theme parks - Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom - are adorned with festive decorations, creating a picturesque backdrop for your holiday celebration. Themed shows and parades showcase the spirit of the season, with beloved characters donning their Thanksgiving best. The parks also offer special holiday events, such as Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party (which sometimes starts around Thanksgiving), providing additional entertainment for the whole family.

In addition to the themed entertainment, the parks are known for their delicious food offerings. Thanksgiving at Disney World is no exception. You'll find traditional Thanksgiving dishes, like turkey and stuffing, on the menus of various quick-service and table-service restaurants. Be sure to check the park guides or My Disney Experience app for the most up-to-date information on special Thanksgiving menus and dining options.

Thanksgiving Dining Options

As mentioned earlier, Disney World offers a range of dining options for Thanksgiving. From character breakfasts that feature turkey and other Thanksgiving favorites to feasts fit for royalty at signature dining experiences, there's something to suit every taste and budget. Some popular choices include the Thanksgiving meal at The Land dining room in Epcot's Future World, the Cinderella Royal Table at Cinderella Castle in Magic Kingdom, and the Hollywood & Vine restaurant in Hollywood Studios, which often serves a Thanksgiving-inspired buffet.

Reservations for table-service restaurants are highly recommended, so be sure to book in advance to guarantee your spot. Keep in mind that many restaurants, including those at Disney resort hotels, offer Thanksgiving feasts as well. Be sure to explore all your dining options to make the most of your holiday celebration.

Disney Springs Thanksgiving

Beyond the theme parks, Disney Springs, a sprawling shopping, dining, and entertainment district, also gets into the Thanksgiving spirit. Shops, restaurants, and entertainment venues are decorated for the season, offering a festive atmosphere for guests to enjoy. Many dining locations throughout Disney Springs offer special Thanksgiving menus, providing another opportunity to indulge in some holiday-inspired cuisine.

One popular spot for Thanksgiving dinner is The BOATHOUSE, a waterfront restaurant offering a special Thanksgiving menu featuring slow-roasted turkey and all the traditional trimmings. ebenso, STK Orlando, a trendy steakhouse, often serves a limited-time Thanksgiving menu alongside their regular offerings. Check their websites or contact the restaurants directly for the latest information on Thanksgiving dining options.

Resort Activities and Decorations

Disney World resort hotels also join in the Thanksgiving celebration, adding a touch of the holidays to their lobby decorations and offering special activities for guests. From Thanksgiving-themed crafts and games to movies under the stars, there's always something festive happening at the resorts. Some even host Thanksgiving feasts in their restaurants, providing an elegant setting for a traditional meal.

For example, the Contemporary Resort often hosts a Thanksgiving Day feast at The Contemporary's California Grill, while the Yacht Club Resort offers a Thanksgiving buffet atAle & Compass Restaurant. Be sure to check with your resort for details on their Thanksgiving plans, and don't forget to admire the beautiful holiday decorations throughout the property.

Thanksgiving Morning at Disney World

If you're visiting Disney World on Thanksgiving Day itself, you may be interested in knowing that the parks open at their normal hours. However, keep in mind that some entertainment and shows may be adjusted or unavailable on the holiday. Additionally, character greeting opportunities may be limited as characters participate in Thanksgiving celebrations throughout the parks. Check the official Disney World website or the My Disney Experience app for the most up-to-date information on park hours and entertainment schedules for your visit.

As for Thanksgiving morning activities, many Disney World resort hotels offer turkey Trots or fun runs. These events are a great way to start your day, burning off some calories before indulging in a Thanksgiving feast. Some resorts also host Thanksgiving morning buffets, providing a convenient and delicious option for breakfast or brunch.

Thanksgiving Day Parade

One of the most anticipated Thanksgiving Day events at Disney World is the outdoor showing of the famous Thanksgiving Day Parade on ABC. While the parade is typically held in New York City, Disney World brings the magic of the parade to life with a special viewing event. Guests can watch the parade while enjoying a Thanksgiving feast at a private tented area in the Magic Kingdom's upcoming park hours on Thanksgiving Day.

This exclusive dining experience, called the "FIFA Thanksgiving Day Parade at Magic Kingdom Park," includes a delicious Thanksgiving meal and reserved viewing for the parade. Spaces fill up quickly, so be sure to book your spot well in advance.
